The A5 is a 2.0-litre turbo four making 261 bhp through a seven-speed S tronic gearbox, four seats, two doors. At RM800 a day it sits below every BMW and Mercedes coupe we run, which is why it gets booked so often by people who want a good-looking car photographed at a wedding or a portrait shoot without paying M4 money.

It drinks ordinary RON 97 and returns something in the region of 9 to 11 litres per 100 km in real Klang Valley traffic, which is stop-start almost everywhere between 7am and 10am and again from 5pm. Budget roughly RM120 to RM160 of petrol for a weekend of ordinary city driving with a run out to Genting or Port Dickson on top.

Size is not an issue. The A5 is a normal-width saloon underneath the coupe roof, so it fits the tighter bays in older Bukit Bintang and Bangsar car parks that a Range Rover simply will not. The nose is low but not supercar low; standard KL ramps and the speed humps in most gated communities are fine at a sensible angle.

Who actually books it: couples wanting a nicer car for a weekend, groom's cars for smaller weddings, and a fair number of expats on short assignments who want something presentable for three or four weeks without committing to a purchase. It is also a common step-up for someone whose own car is in the workshop and who decides to enjoy the week.

The two doors are the one real limitation. Rear headroom under that sloping roof is tight for adults and the boot takes two cabin cases, not four. If you are carrying family or luggage, look at the C300 or the X4 instead. Better posted here than discovered at the arrivals kerb.
