Car rental in Setapak

We deliver anywhere in Setapak for RM 50 — Wangsa Maju, Danau Kota, Taman Melati, Genting Klang and the roads around TARUMT. From our Subang Jaya base it is about 40 minutes clear across the top of the city, so we quote 55 to 75 minutes from confirmation. We meet you at your house, condominium lobby or campus car park, check your licence, walk the car with you and take a photo record before handing over. If you are in student accommodation, meet us in the visitor bay, not at the block — it is quicker for everyone.

Local notes

Setapak, and why renting here works the way it does

Setapak runs north-east out of Kuala Lumpur along Jalan Genting Klang, and it is dominated by education: Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology sits right on the main road, with several colleges nearby, and the whole area is shaped around a large student population — cheap food, room rentals, printing shops, late-night mamak. Setapak Central mall is the main retail anchor, with Wangsa Walk further along in Wangsa Maju. Danau Kota is known for its long-running Uptown night market. Wangsa Maju itself is a planned residential township with its own commercial sections and an LRT station on the Kelana Jaya line. Taman Melati and Taman Sri Rampai fill in the older housing between them.

Students, first and foremost — TARUMT and the surrounding colleges generate a constant flow of short hires for trips home to Perak, Penang, Pahang and Johor, usually the Golf GTI or the Civic RS. Parents visiting for open days and graduations, who want something presentable and take a Mercedes or BMW saloon. Then ordinary Wangsa Maju and Taman Sri Rampai households replacing a car or needing a second one, who take a Lexus IS300 F Sport or an Audi saloon. Because the Karak Highway is close, we also get Genting and Bentong weekend bookings — the Civic Type R and the GR Supra do well on that climb. Monthly hires here tend to be families, not corporates.

Getting there from SS15

Setapak's spine is Jalan Genting Klang, with the MRR2 crossing it, the DUKE running west towards Kepong and Jalan Duta, and the AKLEH elevated highway giving a fast run into the KLCC area. From SS15 we normally take the Federal or NPE then Jalan Kuching and the DUKE — about 40 minutes clear. Jalan Genting Klang is congested inbound from 7am and outbound from 5.30pm, made worse by the student traffic around the campuses at class change. The MRR2 at Wangsa Maju is another slow spot. Tolls on DUKE and AKLEH come to a few ringgit. Genting is around 45 minutes via the Karak.

Parking in Setapak

Around the campuses, parking is the daily battle: the bays along Jalan Genting Klang and the surrounding taman roads are taken by mid-morning during term, and double parking outside the food rows is standard. DBKL paid bays apply on the commercial stretches at low rates, with regular enforcement. Setapak Central and Wangsa Walk both have multi-storey car parks with modest hourly rates, and they are the reliable option. Danau Kota's night market fills the surrounding streets in the evening. Condominiums in Taman Melati and Wangsa Maju require guardhouse registration for visitor parking.

Queries

Questions about renting in Setapak

Do you rent to TARUMT students?

Yes, provided you hold a valid full licence, meet our minimum age and can place a refundable deposit on a card. Short hires for trips home are the usual booking here. Everything we hold is premium, so the rates and deposits sit above a budget hire; a Golf GTI or a Civic RS is the most affordable option. Book ahead around semester breaks and festive weekends.

Where do you hand the car over near the campus?

Usually in the Setapak Central car park or a condominium visitor bay, never on Jalan Genting Klang itself, which is busy and has no safe place to stop for ten minutes. If you are in student accommodation, come down to the visitor bay and we will do the licence check, walkaround and photos there.

How far is Setapak from Genting Highlands?

About 45 minutes to Awana in clear conditions — MRR2 or Jalan Genting Klang out to the Karak Highway, then the climb. Weekends and school holidays add a good deal. Use a lower gear on the descent instead of riding the brakes, and take a car with a bit more engine if you are travelling with a full load.
