The 718 family is the entry: Boxster at RM1,500, Cayman at RM1,799, Spyder at RM1,800. The Boxster and Spyder are open-top, the Cayman is the fixed-roof coupe. The Spyder is the enthusiast's pick — a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six with a six-speed manual — and it is one of only two manual cars on the fleet, so confirm you can drive one before booking.

The 911s sit above: the Carrera S at RM2,800, RM15,900 a week or RM28,000 a month, and the GT3 at RM4,500. The Carrera S is the one you can genuinely use every day — quick, comfortable, with a boot in the nose and rear seats for bags. The GT3 is a road-legal track car with a 510 bhp flat-six that revs past 9,000 rpm, and it is booked for Sepang weekends and serious drivers, not for hotel forecourts.

The two practical Porsches are the Macan SUV at RM1,700 a day, RM9,000 a week or RM14,500 a month, and the Panamera saloon at RM2,399. The Macan is our most-booked Porsche by some distance because it does everything: fits car parks, carries a family, and still drives like a Porsche. The Panamera is the four-door choice when passengers matter more than roof height.

Ground clearance is the recurring KL problem. Every low Porsche here will scrape on an aggressive car park ramp taken square-on, and Bukit Bintang has several. Take ramps at an angle, and use hotel valet where you can — the major KL hotels handle sports cars daily. The Macan and Panamera are unaffected.

Fuel across the range: the 718s and Macan sit around 11 to 13 litres per 100 km, the 911s and Panamera around 13 to 16 when driven with intent. All take RON 97. The Macan's monthly rate at RM14,500 works out cheaper per day than a week of the same car, which is why long-stay expats tend to end up in one.
